The question of salvation is the main question that Christianity solves. People forever have recognized that there is a problem or flaw with human beings because of the evil in the world this is clear to see. Christianity answers this question of why evil exist but also answers the question of how we can be saved from this problem of sin. The study of salvation or soteriology is a complex subject with a lot of aspects but the aspect that should not be under debate at least in Christianity is how we are saved.
Christians everywhere should understand that salvation only comes through Christ and his atonement on the cross. With that being said for some reason people everywhere try to be saved through their own works instead of through the work of Christ. In the Bible there are four things that the Bible says need to happen in order for us to be saved. The first is faith in Christ or believing in his work on the cross. Second is confession of that faith in front of man because the Bible is clear that we must confess Christ before men for him to profess us before his father (Romans 10:10). Third is repentance or being sorrowful for our sin and then turning from it to Christ (Acts 2:38). Fourth is the most controversial but the Bible does say that we need to be baptized (Acts 2:38). These are the works of faith! These are the works that we are saved by not any other works.
Now with that being said many Christians have this flawed understanding that works of faith save them but they stay saved by following some other set of rules. This is a lie! The truth is that we are saved by faith and we remain saved only by faith! Faith and works of faith (confession, repentance and baptism) is the key to salvation and the key for remaining saved. Many Christians around the world struggle with doubt of their salvation because they feel like they have somehow lost the forgiveness of Christ but that is just not true. The truth is that one sin is not going to allow you to lose your faith, which is why you are saved in the first place.
I want to encourage you that if you have put your faith in Christ and performed the works of faith like confession, repentance, and baptism you are saved and that faith is how you remain saved! Don’t fall into the trap of doubting whether or not you are saved just because of one sin that is a lie that God does not want you to believe. The truth is that God in his grace and mercy has forgiven your past, present and future sin if you have faith and remain in faith! Christians I challenge you to remain in the faith and do not fall into doubt due to sin. The lie that Satan wants us to believe is that we have lost our salvation and that after each and every sin we must once again be forgiven! That is a lie that will lead you to constantly doubt your salvation and God does not want that, God wants you to know that you are his child and to know that he is rich in Grace and Mercy!
